In 2004 a phenomenon hit the internet that has never been equalled when the World of Warcraft was released. WoW (World of Warcraft) is popular with millions of players across the planet and due to its phenomenal success it is unlikely that any other online role-playing game, or MMORPG, will ever match its success.
World of Warcraft stands as not only the most popular of the Warcraft series but with all different kinds of people from different walks of life and from countries all over the planet it is now the most popular online game ever created.
World of Warcraft has went from strength to strength since its launch in November 2004. Right from its conception and release WoW has been loved by both critics and gamers. At one point fourteen million people were actively playing the game online.
Nowadays World of Warcraft has levelled out at a very respectable eleven million active gamers.
WoW is no longer merely a computer game but has become a genuine phenomenon all over the globe.
WoW is the fourth title in the Warcraft game series. The very first game in the series was titled Warcraft: Orcs and Humans which was so successful it spawned a sequel.
Due to the success of the first Warcraft game the second title Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness was released in 1995 and was raved about by game critics and players alike.In 2002 Blizzard Entertainment released the last single player game in the warcraft series - Warcraft: Reign of Chaos. This was the most successful warcraft game released to that point.
Once the third Warcraft game had been released the game's makers, Blizzard Entertainment, released a statement that no more single player Pc Warcraft games would be made. Instead they had decided to create an online gaming environment for Warcraft games that would be multiplayer and interactive. Players would then have the ability to interact with in an entire online fantasy world filled with new creatures and other real people.
Although gaming critics and gamers alike waited in anticipation of the game it was not until late November of 2004 that the first release of World of Warcraft became available.
Since then it has become a global success attracting players from almost every country in the world.When it was at its most successful World of Warcraft attracted fourteen million active players.
Today WoW has a consistent eleven million players who actively play the game.It seems that WoW is not a phenomenon that is going away any time soon.
